Classroom Book Awards

It’s that time of the year again. Time for my wonderful group of readers to award the books in our classroom. At the end of each school year my readers: come up with book award categories, nominate their favorites, persuade friends to vote for the books they want to win, vote, and then celebrate our year of reading with an awards ceremony.

Doesn’t that sound fun? It is.

Yesterday we brainstormed categories. Today I will announce the categories and give students a night to think about what books they would like to nominate. I can’t wait to see what they nominate tomorrow.

Here are the awards students will be giving:

Book of the Year

Read Aloud of the Year

Best Middle Grade Novel

Best Picture Book

Favorite Author

Favorite Illustrator

Genre Awards (awarded to best book in each of the genres we study)

Favorite Graphic Novel (book and series)

Jennifer Holm Award (students felt that we needed to vote on our favorite Holm book)

Best Reading Moment (goes to our favorite shared reading moment together)

I am so excited to see what books students decide are most deserving!
