I Shopped Indie: Mclean and Eakin Bookstore

Last week’s Amazon acquisition of  Goodreads has caused me to do a lot of thinking about how I purchase my books. I’m not a big Amazon customer, but I have decided that I will not longer purchase any books from them.

My wife and I spent a few days this week in northern Michigan. While we where there I decided to spend some time shopping at one of the local indie bookshops, Mclean and Eakin Bookstore. It was awesome. Not only do they offer teachers a 20% discount, but they also ship anywhere in the continental United Stes for 99 cents. I can’t wait to go back!

I hope you enjoy my picture tour of Mclean and Eakin.

I really wish I had more time to visit Mclean and Eakin. This chair was really calling my name.

I was super excited to read Stephen Savage’s Little Tug.

I left with a couple of books for my classroom.

  1. I love the empty stickers and temporary tattoos box. Because how could you possibly keep that full? Also love the I-Spy-Adam-Rex under the “Find It Here Buy It Here” sign. (I looooove indie bookstores.)

  2. I so love to see independent stores out there making it. Unfortunately, there are so few and in my area, none. When that happens, Amazon is the only viable option. I’m not sure your dislike of Amazon and its newest aquisition of Goodreads but your opinion is just that. Thanks for bringing this interesting shop to our attention. If they sell online, I will certainly support them.

  3. We have several marvelous Indie stores here in Denver, but I stop at any store where I’m traveling, Colby. What a great-looking store this is. Thanks for giving a peek at what they are doing & how they look!
