Slice of Life: A New Challenge

15 months ago my friend Mr. Schu and I started the Newbery Challenge. We read every single Newbery Medal winning book chronologically. The challenge was a lot of fun. I got to read a lot of great books that I probably wouldn’t have read it if were not for the challenge, and I had a ton of fun making silly weekly videos. My favorite part of the challenge was developing a deeper friendship with Mr. Schu.

Today, Mr. Schu and I begin a new challenge. It isn’t as daunting as the first one. This challenge will only take us a couple of months. I’m excited to see what sort of adventures this challenge has in store.

For more info on the challenge watch the video below.

  1. I love this idea! What a great celebration of books. I like the opportunity to hear of great reading for the youngest reader. It is tough finding books for these children that have quality and appeal. Thank you for doing this!

  2. I love your on the spot videos. :) This is a great idea. I’ll be anxious to hear/watch your Saturday posts. I’ll be sure to share these links with my friends who teach in the younger grades too.

  3. My favorite: HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS. Like so many of his books, the message is wonderful… but the flow of the words and the childhood memories are the BEST.

  4. I mean, the first grade teacher in me just can’t stop loving this! It was our Teacher-Librarian who read Henry and Mudge and the Great Grandpas to my kidlets and getting them excited about this series. I could go on and on, but I’ll tuck my ideas away for blogging. Thanks for sharing a great idea! I’m going to try and pull as many as I can to have out and to read and revisit!
