It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? 3/24/2014

books i loved last week

Emily’s Blue Period

By: Cathleen Daly

Illustrated By: Lisa Brown

I love this hybrid: chapter book/picture book. It does a great job showing a child dealing with the separation of her parents.

Once Upon a Slime

By: Andy Griffiths

Illustrated By: Terry Denton

I love books that are written for kids, that give kids tips about writing.

By: Nic Bishop

Wow! I learned a ton about lizards. Nic Bishop is a master at writing great nonfiction books for children.

this week I'm reading

Princess Lablemaker To The Rescue

By: Tom Angleberger

The Origami Yoda series is one of my all-time favorite series. Huzzah, huzzah!

  1. I adored Daly’s Prudence Wants a Pet so really want to get this new title of hers. Nic Bishop is amazing isn’t he? I am reading some of the Scientist in the Field titles with my own children (he acted as photojournalist in these) and am learning so much! I got to hear him speak a few weeks ago at a Literacy Conference in Washington and his stories about how he takes his photos were amazing. He held the entire audience spellbound.

  2. I recently received Princess Labelmaker as a birthday gift. My 5th grade daughter saw it, shrieked and took it from me. I haven’t seen it since; I might need to buy another copy from the book fair.

  3. I have to get Princess Labelmaker for my 12 year old girl who just adores the Origami Yoda series. Angleberger is so prolific. Emily’s Blue Period looks like a book I have to find soonest.
