Slice of Life: Indies First Storytime

Last Friday I was following the Tweets of Mr. Schu’s crazy 800 mile adventure to celebrate Indies First Storytime. I decided that I would look to see if I could take my kids on our own little adventure to celebrate Indies First Storytime.

On Saturday morning, I loaded the kids up in our ol’ minivan and headed to Bookbug in Kalamazoo to celebrate with them.

We arrived a few minutes before the event. The kids had on their game faces.

One of the featured authors for the event was Jesse Klausmeier. We loved listening to her read Open This Little Book.

Be still my heart! Jesse called Dharia up front to help her turn the pages.

After Jesse’s reading we got a chance to listen to the amazing Sarah Stewart talk about her masterpiece The Gardener.

Then it was time to head outside and plant flowers in front of Bookbug.

Indies First Storytime was AMAZING! I hope it becomes an annual event!

  1. Wonderful, Colby. Love that you got to see Sarah Stewart. Her books are so great. And also loved seeing your children get going in the bookstore-right at home!

  2. You know, it seems like between Minnesota and Michigan, the midwest is FULL of great authors!!! This bookstore looks wonderful—SO inviting, and your kids are too precious for words. It’s obvious your little one is in love with Minnie Mouse (and mice, in general?), love the hat on Dharia (now exciting turning those pages!) and I couldn’t miss your son gripping his Captain Underpants book. Just love this and the gardening! How cool! Lucky day for all of you, and I’m sure the authors felt the same way! šŸ˜€

  3. I loved my chance to go to Indie’s First Storytime in Oak Park, MI at the Book Beat. I had the awesome chance to see Christopher Paul Curtis, Gloria Whelan, Matt Faulkner, and Michael Zadoorian! It was such a joy listening to them read their favorite stories. šŸ™‚ I agree that hopefully this will be a yearly event! It is so cool you got to see Sarah Stewart. She seems like such a delight.
