If you go back to this week 15 years ago many important things were going on in my life. My high school baseball team was upset in districts-ending my baseball career a week earlier than expected. I just started dating this darling young gal (who later became wife), and I graduated from high school.
This was a memorable week for me. Little did I know at the time that it was an important week for readers. According the sites that I have check out, on June 1, 1999 a midwestern girl published her first book. The story was of a young girl at the end of the 19th century. The story captured the hearts of readers everywhere. The story was called Our Only May Amelia. It was written by Jennifer L. Holm.
Fifteen years later, Ms. Holm has published more than 30 books for young readers. She has helped turned countless children into readers. She has moved children’s literature forward.
Thank you, Ms. Holm.
Thank you for the making the jobs of teachers, parents, and librarians easier. Thank you for treating each fan that you meet like they are the most important person in the world. Thank you for: Babymouse, Turtle, Squish, Boston Jane, Penny, and May Amelia.
Thank you for being my friend.
