Dr. Dolittle-Newbery Medal 1923

After reading The Story of Mankind, I was a little worried about this challenge. I am happy to say that after reading Dolittle, I am glad that I am reading through the Newbery Medal books with Mr. Schu and company. My feeling is that the process will be a roller coaster: sometimes I’ll scream with excitement (Dr. Dolittle), and other times I’ll feel like throwing up (The Story of Mankind).

Be sure to check out Mr. Schu’s Dr. Dolittle video at Watch.Connect.Read.

The Voyages of Dr. Dolittle

  1. I loved Dr. Dolittle when I was a third/ fourth grader, and read the entire series. Rereading the first two books for the Nerdbery challenge, I felt the books lost a little of their magic. I think this has more to do with the fact that I am not a young girl who dreams of being a vet anymore, not flaws in the Dr. Dolittle books themselves.

I have several students reading The Voyages of Dr. Dolittle for our class Newbery project, and they like it. I am glad that such an older book still has appeal for today’s kids.

Next stop, The Dark Frigate, which I have never read!
